Upon completion of my TEFL-Certification in Guadalajara, I worked briefly in a Language Center in Tlaquepaque, Jalisco, México. The students, ranging in age from 8 years old to adult, were curious, engaging and challenging in their desire to learn.
Classes of all sizes and levels seemed to respond well when written and verbal lessons were enhanced with artistic methods. At times our boards were filled with words outside of the lesson that students showed a special interest in learning.
Combining information from daily experiences with book examples often enhanced comprehension, thus making English learning easier for students.
Using Postcards, the popular four-level American English program from Pearson Longman, and Top Notch, a dynamic six-level course for international communication from Pearson ELT, book lessons were enhanced with creative techniques, like drawing and painting.
