“Everybody can be great. Because anybody can serve… You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.”
~ Martin Luther King, Jr
The past 10 years have given me the great fortune to volunteer with several wonderful organizations.
I cleaned turkey barns and brushed burros with Farm Sanctuary when they still had their location in Orland, California. I picked up trash and swept brick-laid streets with La Brigada de la Basura, a neighborhood beautification project in Puerto Vallarta, México.
So far, my greatest venture into volunteering has been as an English teacher with Harvard University-founded WorldTeach.
My volunteer experience with WorldTeach Colombia presented itself at an optimum time in my adult life. After working and fundraising for several months before, I relocated in January 2014 to the coastal city of Barranquilla.

As my volunteer year came to an end, I realized I was deeply in love with the culture, food, and people of Colombia. Upon fulfillment of my commitment, I stayed for three more years, working as a teacher to bring my total experience abroad to five years.
